Celebrating Evil: What Your Actions Reveal About Your Heart

We have learned a lot this past week about the people we share our world with. Admittedly, there has been a divide in America for a while, however, we can see it most definitively now.
On one hand we see those who are in mourning and whose hearts are broken over the evil that occurred on Wednesday, September 10, 2025. On the other hand, we see those who are celebrating the assassination of a young husband and father who they disagreed with - void of empathy, compassion or human decency. Make no mistake, this is not a disagreement on politics - this is a battle between good and evil.

The Pervasiveness of Evil in Our World
Jesus confronted the Pharisees directly because their words revealed their true condition: "Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” (Matthew 23:33). The Pharisees spoke piously in public, but their hearts were filled with pride, self-righteousness, and evil intent.
Jesus did not mince words when He explained how the heart and the mouth are connected. What’s deep inside your soul cannot be hidden forever. Sooner or later, what fills your heart will come out in your words, your choices, and even in what you celebrate. If you are celebrating evil, you are not standing on neutral ground - you are standing hand-in-hand with the devil.
In the same way, our daily conversations, social media posts, and even casual remarks are a mirror of what’s going on inside us. If our hearts are filled with gratitude and God’s Word, encouragement and truth will flow naturally. But if our hearts are filled with anger, bitterness, hatred, evil, or sin - those things will eventually overflow in our speech.
Scripture warns us:
“Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness” (Isaiah 5:20).
“Do not be deceived: Evil company corrupts good habits” (1 Corinthians 15:33).
The danger isn’t only in doing evil. The danger is in celebrating it. Celebration shows agreement, and agreement shows allegiance.

Celebrating Evil Aligns You with Darkness
Jesus’ direct confrontation of the Pharisees addressed their claim that they served God but lived in opposition to Him. Their actions like seeking to kill, lying about Jesus, and rejecting truth showed their true allegiance - not to Abraham, and not to God, but to Satan. In John 8:44 Jesus said to them: “You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning… for he is a liar and the father of it.”
That’s some heavy truth, but truth that many around us need to hear. When we celebrate sin and evil - whether through our laughter, our applause, or even a careless “like” on social media we align ourselves with Satan’s desires, not God’s.
Paul draws the line in Ephesians 5:11: “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.” Notice, Paul doesn’t say to ignore them or quietly disapprove - he says to have no fellowship with them and to expose them.
Examine Yourself and Expose Evil
This isn’t only about looking inside ourselves - although that's where it must begin. We need to ask: What am I cheering for? What am I celebrating? What gets my laughter, my applause, or my approval? Is what I believe and the way I act aligned with good or evil?

As Christians, we are called to point clearly at sin and evil and name it for what it is. Paul warned in Romans 1:32 about those “who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.”
Approval is not innocent. Celebration is not harmless. Silence is not neutral. When we refuse to confront evil, we allow it to grow unchecked. God’s people may not applaud sin and evil, but we cannot ignore it either. We must reject it, expose it, and shine the light of truth into a dark world in a loving and peaceful way.
If this feels heavy, that’s because it is - but the good news is even greater.
The Good News: God Will Give You a New Heart
The good news is this: God doesn’t leave us trapped. He promises in Ezekiel 36:26: “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you.”
If your words, actions, or celebrations have exposed sin and evil in your heart, don’t run from conviction - run to Christ. He alone can cleanse the heart and replace darkness with light. Jesus is the only way to escape the grip that sin and evil have on you.
Final Thoughts
Evil may look powerful in our world right now, but it will not win. Revelation 20:10 promises that the devil who deceives the world will be cast into the lake of fire forever. Jesus already secured the victory at the cross, and He alone offers forgiveness, freedom from sin, and eternal life. Choosing Christ is not just the best choice - it is the only choice that leads to hope, peace, and eternal victory.
Remember, there is no neutral ground. You are either on the side of Christ or on the side of Satan. Your words and actions make it clear to the world which side you are on.
Call to Action:
Take a moment today to ask yourself honestly:
What do my words, thoughts and actions reveal about my heart?
If your heart has been cheering for evil, repent and let God replace that darkness with the light of His Son, Jesus Christ. If you’ve never given your life to Christ, this is the moment to do so, tomorrow may be too late.
Blessings,
Amy
